Crime News: Five people were arrested with mephedrone worth around Rs 1.5 crore in two separate cases from Surat city of Gujarat on Saturday. Regarding this arrest, an official said that during patrolling, Surat city crime branch personnel recovered 974 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 1 crore from two people riding a motorcycle on Hazira-Sayan road.
The men from whom mephedrone was recovered have been identified as Tamir Sheikh (20) and Shahid Dewan (19).

Meanwhile, an official of Surat Crime Branch said that both of them tried to escape and hid in a field, but were caught after a search operation that lasted for about six hours. In a related case, three more people have been arrested with 554 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 55 lakh. They had purchased this mephedrone from Mumbai.
The other three persons were identified as Adhikari Irfan Khan Pathan, Mohammad Rafiq and Asfaq Qureshi. An official associated with the branch says all five have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigation into the smuggling network is underway.
