Unnao. A major accident took place on Sunday at the diversion site built for the under-construction Ganga Expressway near Sablikheda in Behta Mujawar on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. An uncontrolled Fortuner car going from Lucknow to Agra collided with iron sheets installed as barricades for safety on the roadside. The car driver died in the accident. Jewelleries worth 45 lakhs have been recovered from the bag found with him.

The jewellery found in the car belonged to Davi Sareen, a Khatri businessman from Agra. The bill found in the bag was in the name of his wife Bela Sareen. The driver was going to Agra with the jewellery from Lucknow's Laxman Das Jewellers. The price of the jewellery is mentioned as Rs 45 lakh in the bill. On Sunday evening, the Fortuner car overturned several times after hitting the iron sheet at the diversion site.

The UPDA rescue team took the seriously injured driver to Bangarmau CHC, where he died during treatment. He was identified from the Aadhar card as 54-year-old Puran Chand Sharma, son of Ram Gopal Sharma, resident of 9/493 Gali Kan Maliyan Khidki, Kale Khan Mahadev Gali Mohalla Moti Katra police station and district Agra.

All the airbags of the car opened, but still life could not be saved   

The police informed the deceased's wife Babita. The car was moving at a high speed at the time of the incident and due to the driver dozing off, the car went out of control and crashed. All the air bags of the car opened, but the driver could not survive. CO Bangarmau Arvind Chaurasia said that after getting information about the accident, the relatives came and matched the jewellery with the bill. After this, the jewellery was handed over to them.
