Dismissed RPF constable Chetan Singh Chaudhary, arrested for killing his senior and 3 passengers on a moving train near Maharashtra's capital Mumbai in 2023, has been put under observation for 'psychosis'. A hospital report claimed that the former RPF personnel is currently being treated at a Thane mental hospital due to the disease. The court hearing the case had earlier sought a report from the Thane jail management on his condition as the accused is in its custody. After this, the jail management submitted a report issued by the health review board of the Thane mental hospital.

'Detailed report will be available only after a month'

The report issued by the board said that the accused was brought to the hospital on February 20 and is 'under observation due to psychosis'. The hospital said that he was admitted due to complaints of 'abnormal behaviour' and needs to be kept in the hospital for another month. The note on the report reads that 'the patient is being treated and various tests are being conducted on him by the concerned doctors'. It said that the detailed report will be available only after a month of investigation.

34-year-old Chaudhary is accused of shooting his senior ASI Tikaram Meena and three passengers with his official weapon in the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express near Palghar on July 31, 2023. When the train stopped near Mira Road station on the Mumbai suburban rail network after passengers pulled the chain, Chaudhary was caught while trying to escape and the weapon was also recovered from him. The RPF constable has been in jail since then.

Cases were registered under sections of IPC

Choudhary has been booked under sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste, place of birth, residence and language) as well as provisions of the Railways Act and the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act. According to police, the former RPF constable opened fire on his senior ASI Meena and a passenger in coach 'B-5' of the train. He then shot another passenger in the pantry car and another in coach S-6.
