America's newly elected President Donald Trump has given a clear ultimatum to Hamas regarding the people held hostage in Gaza. He has warned that if all the hostages are not released before his swearing-in, then there will be havoc in West Asia. He is going to be sworn in as the 47th President of America on January 20.
Let us tell you that Hamas carried out a massive attack in Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1200 people were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage. Of these, about 100 people are still in the custody of Hamas, including some Americans.
Everything will go wrong in West Asia
"If the hostages don't come back, everything will be ruined. I don't want to hurt your conversation. If they don't come back by the time I take office, everything will be ruined in the Middle East," Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Tuesday.
It won't be good for Hamas: Trump
He was responding to a question on the status of talks with Hamas on the release of American hostages. He said, 'It will not be good for Hamas and frankly it will not be good for anyone. Everything will be ruined. They should have released the hostages long ago. An attack like October 7 should never have happened.'
46 thousand Palestinians were killed in Israeli conflict
Trump warned Hamas to release all the hostages by January 20. However, Trump has not clarified what action he will take if the hostages are not released. After the October 7 attack, Israel has been conducting a military operation to wipe out Hamas in the Gaza Strip. More than 46 thousand Palestinians have been killed in this so far. The Biden administration had unsuccessfully attempted to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel-Hamas talks ongoing
According to National Public Radio, talks are currently going on between Israel and Hamas in Qatar, which includes the release of hostages including American citizens and an agreement on a ceasefire. The conflict in Gaza has been going on for more than 15 months. Apart from Hamas, Israel has also fought with Hezbollah in Lebanon. But a ceasefire has been implemented between the two there.
