The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team has raided 21 locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune in connection with online betting. This raid has been conducted by ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED team conducted this raid on 10 and 12 December. This action was taken by ED as part of the ongoing investigation into the illegal broadcasting of cricket matches and online betting. During the raid, bank funds worth Rs 30 lakh were frozen, and many objectionable documents and digital devices were also seized.

The ED had initiated this investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police against the online betting app Magicwin and others. The investigation revealed that “Magicwin” is a betting website, which is shown as a gaming website. Surprisingly, this gaming app was developed by Pakistani citizens and was being operated by some Indian citizens sitting in Dubai. The investigation revealed that the betting games shown on this website are played in the Philippines and other countries where betting is legal. The API of these games is copied and rebroadcast on Magicwin.
The app is operated from Pakistan
Let us tell you that the betting on the website, depositing money, withdrawing money and operating the betting, all were being done by the owners of this app sitting in Pakistan. The ED investigation also revealed that the money deposited on the website by the players and bettors has been routed through different shell companies and fake bank accounts. The owners of the app first invested the money in crypto currency, then transferred the money to Dubai using incash and then hawala channel. Apart from this, the money of the winners of betting is transferred to their bank accounts through the payment gateways / aggregators of shell companies.

Let us tell you that money has also been sent to the players through Domestic Money Transfer (DMT). The investigation also found that the betting app Magicwin had organized a launch party in India, in which many Bollywood celebrities participated and promoted it. These celebrities shot photos and videos for Magicwin and also posted its advertisements on social media. Apart from this, this betting app was also promoted through outdoor hoardings in many parts of the country, especially in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Let us tell you that the Ahmedabad branch of ED has so far raided 68 locations in this case. So far properties worth Rs 3.55 crore have been seized in this case.
