These days, heart-related problems are rapidly making people their victims. Every day, many videos appear on social media, in which people suddenly die due to heart attack or cardiac attack. In heart-related diseases, problems like heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest all sound almost similar.
However, each term of these heart-related problems has its own meaning, which is important to have correct information about. The biggest confusion occurs when it comes to heart attack and cardiac arrest. Some people consider both the terms to be synonymous with each other. While both are completely different things, let us know what is the difference between cardiac arrest and heart attack-
What is a heart attack?
- Heart attack is also called myocardial infarction.
- This is a problem arising in blood circulation.
- When blood flow to the heart is blocked, it is called a heart attack.
- The artery carrying blood to the heart gets blocked, due to which oxygen rich blood cannot reach the heart.
- If this block is not removed as soon as possible, then that part of the heart, to which that artery supplies blood, starts becoming inactive.
- Its symptoms are chest pain, vomiting, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing etc.
- During this time the person remains alive and possibly conscious but needs immediate medical attention.
What is cardiac arrest?
- Cardiac arrest is an electrical problem.
- Electrical malfunction in the heart causes irregular heartbeats (cardiac arrhythmias) which trigger cardiac arrest.
- In such a situation, the pumping action of the heart is affected. Therefore, the heart is unable to supply blood to the brain, lungs and other organs.
- Within a few seconds the pulse begins to slow down and the person may become unconscious.
- Its symptoms are fainting, not responding, abnormal breathing, face turning blue, low pulse etc.
- This is an urgent medical condition in which a person becomes unconscious, breathing and pulse disappear and in such a situation immediate CPR, hospital and expert are required.
