Deepawali or Diwali means the festival of lights and lamps. It is one of the most prominent festivals of Hindus, which is celebrated with great pomp. On this auspicious day, there is a ritual of worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. It is said that those who worship the Goddess of Wealth on this occasion get immense wealth and riches, because this is the same, holy time when Mother Lakshmi comes to Earth and removes all the troubles of her devotees.

• Perform puja during Pradosh period.
• Install the idol on the altar itself.
• Keep your house clean
• For auspiciousness and good fortune, bring home gold and silver items and offer them to Goddess Lakshmi.
• The place of the altar should be in the north-east corner and the place of the idols should be in the eastern corner of the house.
• Light as many lamps as possible in the house and illuminate the entire house.
• Prepare sattvik food at home.
• Worship Goddess Lakshmi properly and offer her kheer.
• Give preference to clay or silver idols for worship .
• Maintain peace and purity while performing puja.
• Make a Swastika with kumkum and turmeric at the entrance of the house.

• Keep shoes and slippers away during the puja.
• Avoid consuming alcohol on Diwali day .
• On Diwali day continue to refill the Akhand Diya throughout the night so that the flame does not go off.
• Do not use iron utensils on this occasion.
• On this auspicious day, do not consume non-vegetarian food items like meat, onion, garlic and eggs etc. even by mistake.
• Do not disrespect your wife, mother, sister and daughter, as it brings inauspiciousness in life.
• Do not lend money to anyone on Diwali day.
• Never wear black clothes during Lakshmi Puja.
