Direct Tax Collection: There has been a tremendous increase in India's direct tax collection. By December 17 of the financial year 2024-25, the country's direct tax collection has increased by 16.45 percent to more than Rs 15.82 lakh crore. In the same period of the previous financial year, the direct tax collection stood at Rs 13.49 lakh crore.
CBDT released tax collection data
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has released this data. CBDT has said that the net direct tax collection of Rs 15.82 lakh crore includes corporate tax of Rs 7.42 lakh crore. Non-corporate tax of Rs 7.97 lakh crore is also included in it and tax of Rs 40,114 crore is included as Securities Transaction Tax (STT).
Direct tax refund of Rs 3.38 lakh crore released
The central government has issued a direct tax refund of Rs 3.38 lakh crore till 17 December 2024. If seen as compared to the same date of the financial year 2023-24 i.e. till 17 December 2024, it shows an increase of 42.49 percent. By the same date a year ago, this tax refund was at Rs 2.37 lakh crore.
Good increase in advance tax collection too
If we look at the total advance tax collection of the country, there is an increase of 20.90 percent in corporate tax and non-corporate tax and it has reached Rs 7.56 lakh crore. This is according to the data till the same date of the previous financial year i.e. 17 December 2023.
If we look at this data, then the non-corporate tax has achieved a growth of 35 percent in advance tax. In comparison, the corporate tax has achieved a growth of only 16.71 percent.
What was the direct tax collection in gross figures
In gross figures, direct tax collection before adjusting refunds stood at Rs 19.21 lakh crore. This figure is till December 17 of the financial year 2025 and compared to a year ago, it is showing a jump of 20.32 percent. The increase in tax collection will prove to be helpful in reaching the set target of the government's fiscal deficit.
