President Mohammad Muizzu on Tuesday changed his stance towards India and his inexperienced government was slammed by his main opposition party, which said that the Muizzu government has now realised that diplomacy cannot be run on the basis of lies and deceit.
India and Maldives are natural partners
Former Maldives President Mohammed Nasheed described India and Maldives as natural partners after Muizzu's meetings with the Indian leadership in New Delhi. Meanwhile, the president of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Abdullah Shahid, has expressed happiness over the revival of old relations between Maldives and India.
Muizzu had started the 'India Out' campaign
Shahid wrote in a post on X that he will continue to work in support of India on projects that have been going on since the time of President Ibrahim Sohil. It is worth mentioning that pro-China President Mohammad Muizzu is on his first official visit to India from 6 to 10 October. He took power only in November last year and as soon as he came, he launched the 'India Out' campaign against India.
90 military officers returned from Maldives
After mutual agreement, 90 Indian military officers returned to India on 10 May this year. These were the same soldiers who were deployed there to help Maldives on the request of its previous government. Relations between the two countries became so sour that two ministers of Muizzu abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and after that Indian tourists refused to go to Maldives.
