New Delhi. Due to the impact of cyclone Remal, at least 38 people died in heavy rains and landslides in many eastern states including West Bengal. At the same time, PM Modi has announced financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives and those injured due to cyclone Remal.
He announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to cyclone Remal in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and West Bengal and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
The cyclone has also affected road and rail connectivity in all eight states of the Northeast. 29 people were killed in Mizoram, 25 of them in a mine collapse in Aizawl district, while four people died in Nagaland, three in Assam and two in Meghalaya.
Landslides in many places due to rain
The rains accompanied by strong winds triggered landslides, uprooted trees and electricity poles and disrupted power and internet services. Several trains were either cancelled or partially cancelled and rescheduled due to waterlogging between New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section and Ditokchera yard under Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway.
