Kolkata: The doctors' association has announced a nationwide strike from Monday, October 14. West Bengal BJP has supported the doctors' strike. The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) said that it has announced a nationwide boycott of alternative medical services from October 14 in solidarity with its colleagues in West Bengal.

FAIMA said that around 50 senior doctors and faculty members of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have resigned from their posts in solidarity with the junior doctors.

Let us tell you that junior doctors have been protesting for the last 65 days against the rape and murder of a second year female trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. The organization appealed to medical associations and resident doctors across the country to join the boycott. The organization also accused the West Bengal government of neglecting the doctors sitting on an indefinite hunger strike.

What did the organization say in its statement?

The organization said in a statement that for the last 65 days our colleagues have been protesting. They have been on indefinite hunger strike for a week. But the West Bengal government has shown indifference towards the colleagues.

In solidarity with colleagues and against the ever-increasing violence on doctors and professionals, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has called upon all medical associations and resident doctors across the country to start boycotting elective services from October 14. The organization also demanded the safety of all health professionals across the country, including West Bengal.

BJP came out in support

On the other hand, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar urged BJP workers and people of West Bengal to join the doctors' protest in large numbers. He said that the West Bengal government had promised to meet the demands of the doctors during the meeting with the Chief Minister, but now it has reneged on it.

Doctors' demands are justified: BJP

West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said, "West Bengal BJP extends its full support to the movement of Junior Doctors Front against Mamata Banerjee government. The demands of the protesting doctors are justifiable after the gruesome rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. They must be met. We have to protect our doctors and save Bengal from the negative forces that are controlling the state's affairs at the moment," Majumdar said.
