How many lamps to light

It is considered auspicious to light five lamps in the house on Chhoti Diwali. Out of which the first lamp should be placed at a high place, the second in the kitchen of the house, the third lamp under the Peepal tree, the fourth lamp near the place where water is kept and the fifth lamp should be placed at the main entrance of the house. Apart from this, you can also light 7, 14 or 21 lamps on this day. Also, on this day, during Pradosh Kaal, a four-faced lamp should be lit in the name of Yam Dev i.e. Yamraj.

In which direction should we light the lamp

Lighting Yam ka Deepak on Chhoti Diwali is considered to be of special importance. For this, first of all light a four-wick diya with mustard oil. Now after moving it around the whole house, place it at the main entrance of the house facing south, because this direction is considered to be the direction of Yam. Keep in mind that the wick of this lamp should represent all the four directions.
