Chhattisgarh News: Four people, including the wife, were arrested in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district for allegedly forcing a 30-year-old man to convert to another religion. A police official gave this information on Monday. According to the police, the man committed suicide after posting a post on social media in this regard, after which the four people were arrested. In the post, the man had accused his wife and in-laws of forcing him to convert to another religion.
Police officials said that the arrests have been made on the charge of abetting suicide. A police official said that on the morning of 7 December, Linesh Sahu was found hanging from the ceiling in his house in Potiyadih village of Arjuni police station area, after which the local police was informed. He said that during investigation, the police found that before committing suicide, Sahu had put a status on WhatsApp, in which he wrote that he was upset with his wife and in-laws because they were allegedly forcing him to convert religion.
Police is investigating the case.
The officer said that Sahu had also shared this status with his brother-in-law at 4 am on December 7. Sahu married Karuna, a resident of Raipur, in September last year. Police officials said that Karuna (27), her father Rajkumar Sahu (54) and mother Gauri Sahu (48) and her sister Kiran Sahu (31) have been arrested on charges of abetting suicide. They said that Karuna's younger sister Kanishka Sahu is absconding and efforts are on to trace her. In India, forcing anyone to convert to another religion is a crime for which there can be both jail and fine.
