Tirupati: Amid the ongoing controversy over the prasad at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud arrived here on Sunday and offered prayers. Justice Chandrachud, his wife Kalpana Das and other family members entered the temple from the Vaikuntha Katar complex and offered prayers in the sanctum sanctorum, news agency IANS reported, quoting the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).

This temple is also known as Balaji Temple. After the darshan, Vedic Pandits offered Vedasarvachanam to the Chief Justice of India and his family at Ranganayakula Mandapam. TTD Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao presented a laminated photo of Srivari and Tirtha Prasadam to the CJI.

There is a controversy regarding Prasad

Earlier, TTD Executive Officer and Additional Executive Officer Venkaiah Chowdhary welcomed Justice Chandrachud at the Vaikuntha Katar complex. It is worth noting that the Chief Justice's visit has come amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged presence of animal fat in the ghee used to make the temple's Laddu Prasadam.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had on September 18 alleged that the ghee used to make laddus during the YSR Congress Party rule contained animal fat. The Chief Minister has already ordered a probe into the allegations by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
