New Delhi: India's IT capital Bengaluru witnessed major waterlogging due to heavy rains. In such a situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more storms today i.e. on October 22 and the minimum temperature will be around 21 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, Bengaluru is expected to be cloudy today, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected in both urban and rural areas. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to be 29 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature is expected to be 21 degrees Celsius.
Traffic banned due to waterlogging
Traffic was also reported to be moving slowly on Sarjapura Road at Wipro Junction and RBD Layout junction due to waterlogging, police said. The situation in the city has prompted opposition parties to take a dig at the Congress-led government in the state.
Earlier on Monday, several flights were delayed at Kempegowda International Airport due to the weather. An official said that more than 20 flights were delayed and four flights were diverted to Chennai. Officials said that a Thai Lion Air flight coming from Thailand was also diverted to Chennai.
Over 20 flights delayed at the airport
Giving information about the incident, the official said, "Due to heavy rains on Monday night (October 21), more than 20 flights were delayed at Kempegowda International Airport. 4 flights were diverted to Chennai. There was one Air India flight from Delhi and 3 IndiGo flights from Delhi, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. In such a situation, Thai Lion Air coming from Thailand was also diverted to Chennai," the Bengaluru airport official said.
Due to incessant rains, the district collector on Monday issued an order declaring a holiday for Anganwadis and schools in Bengaluru city. The collector said, "This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure and in the interest of students. However, all other degree courses, postgraduate programmes, diploma, engineering and ITI will remain open."
