America's newly elected President Donald Trump is going to be sworn in next month. Before that, the Joe Biden administration has announced a new aid package of $988 million for arms and equipment to Ukraine. This will strengthen Ukraine's military capabilities in the future, so that even if Trump stops giving aid, it will not face much problem next year.

Ukraine will be able to buy drones and ammunition

The US has provided more than $62 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the conflict with Russia began in February 2022. According to the Pentagon, USAI funds will be used to purchase ammunition as well as drones and spare parts for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) made by Lockheed Martin.

Biden used presidential drawdown authority

The package was announced Saturday at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum, a meeting of defense industry and policymakers in California. The Biden administration has frequently used presidential drawdown authority, which authorizes President Joe Biden to move excess goods and services from U.S. stockpiles without congressional approval during an emergency.

Ukraine destroyed 28 Russian drones

USAI funds will be used to purchase new weapons from industry. The Biden administration still has about six billion dollars of the Presidential Drawdown Authority granted by Congress. Meanwhile, attacks by Russia and Ukraine on each other continue. Ukraine attacked with drones on Sunday, out of which 46 drones were destroyed. These attacks were carried out in five regions of Russia. At the same time, Ukraine shot down 28 out of 74 Russian drones.
