Despite the earthquake in Thailand, the BIMSTEC summit will be held in Bangkok. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand in the first week of April to participate in it. Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs Jaideep Mazumdar said on Friday that Prime Minister Modi will visit Thailand to attend the sixth BIMSTEC summit. PM Modi will be on an official visit to Thailand from 3 to 4 April. This will be the Prime Minister's third visit to Thailand.

PM Modi will hold bilateral meeting 

Prime Minister Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Thailand's Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra. This will be his second meeting with the Thai Prime Minister. Earlier, he met him on October 11 last year during the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane. 

Jaideep Mazumdar said that India and Thailand have historical bilateral relations, cultural and religious ties. Thailand is India's maritime neighbour. It is an important partner in our Act East policy and vision for the Indo-Pacific and is also an important partner in BIMSTEC. 

PM Modi will visit Sri Lanka on 4 April

After the visit to Thailand, PM Modi will visit Sri Lanka. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that after the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok, Prime Minister Modi will visit Sri Lanka on a state visit from 4 to 6 April at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. You all will remember that President Dissanayake visited New Delhi in December 2024 on his first foreign visit after assuming office as President and now Prime Minister Modi is going there as the first foreign leader to be hosted by President Dissanayake as President of Sri Lanka. 

PM Modi will visit Sri Lanka for the fourth time during his tenure

This will also be the Prime Minister's fourth visit to Sri Lanka during his tenure. Sri Lanka is an integral part of our Neighbourhood First policy and this relationship is based on mutual trust and goodwill and has stood the test of time. India has assisted Sri Lanka at critical moments most recently during the unprecedented economic crisis faced by Sri Lanka in 2022 and India is glad to have been able to play a key role in Sri Lanka's economic stabilisation and reform.
