Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hit back at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his statement that India got real independence after the consecration of Ram temple.

Rahul called it treason and an insult to Indians. He had arrived at the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters at Kotla Marg. Addressing the party leaders here, he mentioned Mohan Bhagwat's comment.

Angry at BJP and RSS

Rahul said that 'All the institutions have been captured by BJP and RSS. Investigation agencies are being used against opposition leaders. Every party worker is fighting against this ideology even in difficult circumstances.'

He said that 'Mohan Bhagwat has the courage to say what he thinks about the country's freedom movement and the Constitution. What he said is treason. Because he is saying that the Constitution is invalid and the fight against the British was invalid.'

Election commission also surrounded

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha also raised questions on the Election Commission. He said that there is a serious problem in the country's electoral system. Rahul said that the party had sought information from the Election Commission on the sudden increase in the number of voters in Maharashtra, but they refused to give it.

Rahul said, 'What purpose is going to be served by this? Will this cause any harm to the Election Commission? Why are they not giving us the list? It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure transparency in elections.'

Allegations of discrepancy in voter data

  • Rahul Gandhi alleged that there is a difference of 1 crore in the voter figures in the Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra Assembly elections. He said that it is the moral responsibility of the Election Commission to explain why this happened.
  • Rahul said that Congress has worked for the people of the country. The success of this country has been built on the foundation of the Constitution. He said that it is important that the ideas we take from here should be spread in other parts of the country.
