The day of Ahoi Ashtami is considered very auspicious. This year this fast day will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2024. This day is dedicated to Ahoi Mata. It is said that women who observe this fast (Ahoi Ashtami 2024) get good children. Also, every problem related to children is solved. According to beliefs, some women break the fast by looking at the moon on this day.

Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha
According to the mythological tale (Ahoi Mata Ki Katha), once upon a time, there lived a moneylender in a town, who lived happily with his seven sons and wife. Once before Diwali, the moneylender's wife went to the field to bring soil for plastering the house. After reaching the field, she started digging the soil with a spade. In the meantime, a porcupine's (Jhaumusa) child died unknowingly due to her spade. In anger, the porcupine's mother cursed that woman that all her children will also die one by one. Due to the curse, one by one, the seven sons of the moneylender died and a mountain of sorrows fell on the moneylender's house.
The moneylender's wife, surrounded by such great sorrow, went to a saint, to whom she told the whole incident. Mahatmas are kind, then he said to the moneylender's wife, "O Goddess, on the day of Ashtami, while meditating on Bhagwati Mata, draw a picture of a porcupine and its children. After this, while worshiping her, ask for forgiveness for your mistake. With the blessings of Mother Bhagwati (Ahoi Mata Ki Kahani), you will get freedom from this big crime.
As per the words of the saint, the moneylender's wife fasted on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month and duly worshipped Ahoi Mata. Due to the effect of the fast, all her seven sons were revived and since then the tradition of worshipping Ahoi Mata and fasting for children has been going on.
