Police have arrested nine accused in connection with the theft of about 900 car engines from the Penukonda plant of South Korean company Kia Motors in Andhra Pradesh's Sri Sathya Sai district.
Police said on Sunday that a Penukonda court has sent the accused to 14 days judicial custody. Police investigation is still going on in the car engine theft case. So far only 10 percent of the investigation has been completed. It is being ascertained who all are involved in this.
Engines were being stolen for the last five years
Police have said that car engines were being stolen for five years. The stolen engines were smuggled and sold in many states of India. This indicates a large illegal network operating. During an internal audit last month, Kia officials noticed that the engines of the cars were missing.
The company had filed a complaint on March 19
The company lodged a police complaint on March 19. Kia has a car manufacturing plant in Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district. Earlier, police officer Venkateshwarlu had said, engines were being stolen since 2020. The engines must have been stolen either from inside the plant or on the way to reach there, because even a small part cannot go out without the permission of the company.
