News Topical, Digital Desk : In the history of Hindi cinema, there have been numerous instances when films starring two major stars have released on the same day. Sometimes, this clash proves beneficial for one film, while sometimes, both films suffer the consequences. One such interesting incident occurred in 1999, when comedy king Govinda and action king Ajay Devgan faced off.

On August 27, 1999,  Ajay Devgn  's Dil Kya Kre and Govinda's Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain were released simultaneously in theaters. It was a clash that left audiences confused.

Govinda and Ajay clashed at the box office

Ajay Devgn's Dil Kya Kare was a serious and emotional story starring him alongside Mahima Chaudhary and Kajol. Audiences had already loved Ajay's pairing with Kajol, and expectations were high for the film. The film's songs were also excellent.

On the other hand, Govinda's Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain was a typical Govinda film, brimming with comedy, dance, and romance. He was paired opposite Urmila Matondkar in this film, marking the first time she paired with Govinda. The film's songs were also huge hits.

The fate of both films at the box office

Both films were strong in their respective genres, but due to their release on the same day, they suffered significant losses. People were unsure which film to watch first, and this directly impacted the box office collections of both films. The situation was such that both films failed to even recover their budgets.

According to Kissa TV, Ajay Devgn's Dil Kya Kare was made for ₹9 crore (90 million rupees) but only grossed ₹89 million (89 million rupees) at the box office. Meanwhile,  Govinda  's Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain was made for ₹67.5 million (62.3 million rupees) but only grossed ₹62.3 million (62.3 million rupees). Both films came close to recouping their budgets but failed to do so.
