Indian Army launched a search operation
The Indian Army has launched a major search and rescue operation in the Chaglagam area of Arunachal Pradesh. The operation was launched late on 10 December 2025 based on information received regarding a vehicle accident on the Hayuliang-Chaglagam road near KM 40. According to preliminary information, a truck carrying 22 laborers from Tinsukia fell off a cliff on the night of December 8. The accident site, approximately 12 km east of Chaglagam, is in difficult terrain and has limited connectivity. No local agency, contractor, or civic representative had reported the incident until the survivors arrived.
Truck seen among dense trees
On December 11, Spear Corps mobilized several search and rescue teams, medical teams, GREF representatives, local police, NDRF personnel, and ADC Hayuliang. At 11:55 a.m., after four hours of intensive searching and roped descent, the truck was located approximately 200 meters below the road near KM 40, in a location difficult to see from the helicopter or the road due to dense trees and bushes. Eighteen bodies have been located and are being retrieved using belay ropes.
Bodies being pulled out of the ditch
ADC Hayuliang has informed Superintendent of Police Anjaw, who has arrived at the scene, while the district medical officer is proceeding to facilitate the evacuation of the injured and bodies. The SDRF, called in by the DC, is on its way.
ADC Hayuliang is also questioning the sub-contractor of the District Council Member of Chaglagam to confirm the background and exact number of workers. Despite the difficult terrain and poor visibility, the Indian Army, in coordination with the civil administration and other agencies, is making every effort to locate the remaining people and provide immediate assistance.
