News Topical, Digital Desk : The Maharashtra government has directly deposited ₹15,661 crore into the bank accounts of 9.9 million eligible farmers and fishermen affected by heavy rains and floods in 2025. This information was given by Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Patil in a written reply in the Maharashtra Assembly.

The minister gave this reply in the context of sharp questions asked by various MLAs, who raised the issue of heavy damage caused by excessive rainfall, especially in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Konkan and Western Maharashtra regions.

The MLAs pointed to widespread devastation in several districts, particularly Gondia, Chandrapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Buldhana, Latur, Parbhani, Nandurbar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Jalgaon, Gadchiroli, Solapur, Yavatmal, Jalna, Pune, and Palghar. The losses included loss of life, damage to farmers' and fishermen's homes, livestock deaths, complete destruction of Kharif crops such as paddy, ragi, and cotton, loss of orchards and dried fish stocks, as well as widespread soil erosion and land degradation.

The MLAs also questioned the implementation of the ₹31,252 crore relief package announced for affected families. They said that despite such a large amount being allocated, approximately 4.82 lakh farmers were initially denied payments due to technical glitches—mainly incomplete e-KYC, Aadhaar linking, and documentation problems.

Approximately ₹164 crore was reported stuck in the treasury as of December 29. The MLAs also alleged that the list of beneficiaries was not uploaded to the websites of the district collector offices on time and that the final survey list did not include many eligible names, leading to widespread discontent among farmers.

In his detailed written reply, Minister Makarand Patil (Jadhav) stated that these claims are partially true. He clarified that after a detailed panchnama (damage assessment) survey and mandatory verification procedures, including Aadhaar seeding and e-KYC, assistance of ₹15,661 crore has been successfully transferred to the verified bank accounts of 99 lakh eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
