Beirut: Israel and Hezbollah have clashed in Lebanon this week after thousands of pagers and radio sets exploded. On Thursday and Friday, Israel and Hezbollah carried out the biggest air strikes in the nearly year-long war.
100 Hezbollah rocket launchers destroyed
The Israeli army has said that about 100 rocket launchers with 1,000 barrels of Hezbollah have been destroyed in several attacks carried out at night. These were being used to attack Israel. An arsenal of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon is also reported to have been destroyed in the Israeli attack. Israeli planes have also attacked Beirut. Israel has carried out these attacks after two of its soldiers were killed and nine were injured in a Hezbollah attack on Thursday.
Hezbollah also retaliated
Hezbollah has launched attacks on northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights after an explosion in communications equipment killed 37 people and injured about 3,500. Hezbollah has fired 140 rockets at the northern region bordering Lebanon, while 120 missiles have been fired at Israeli targets in the Golan Heights.
Hezbollah missile destroyed in mid-air
The Israeli army has said that most of Hezbollah's missiles and rockets were destroyed in the sky or fell in empty space. Israel and Hezbollah have not disclosed their losses. Meanwhile, it has been found that the pagers and radio sets that exploded in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday had high-capacity explosive mixture PETN fitted in them at the time of manufacturing. Investigation is still going on in the matter.
Meanwhile, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant has said that Israeli attacks against Hezbollah will continue, while the US has said that if Hezbollah stops its attacks on Israel, then it will ask Israel to stop attacks in Lebanon, but Britain has asked Israel and Hezbollah for an immediate ceasefire. The United Nations has also expressed concern over the escalation of tensions and has called for an immediate end to the fighting.
