News Topical, Digital Desk : Mohammad Yunus will continue to head the interim government in Bangladesh for now, his cabinet advisor has confirmed this. After an unscheduled meeting of the Advisory Council, Planning Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud said that Mohammad Yunus will not step down.

 

Wahiduddin Mahmood said that no one is going anywhere. The responsibility entrusted to us is important. We cannot abandon this duty. Let us tell you that earlier there was a discussion that Mohammad Yunus may have to resign from his post.

 

Yunus is not in favor of holding elections

It was being said that the political parties and the army there are in favour of holding elections by December this year. Whereas, Yunus wants to stay in power for a long time by postponing the elections. In such a situation, it is becoming difficult for Yunus to work.

 

Bangladesh's main political party BNP and the Islamic student leaders who played a key role in removing the democratic government of former PM Sheikh Hasina from power are demanding elections by the end of this year. Whereas Yunus is talking about postponing it till next year.

 

India has not commented on the internal situation there, but New Delhi is keeping a close eye on the entire situation. On Thursday, Nahid Islam, the head of the newly formed political party National Citizen Party, met Yunus. After the meeting, Islam said that Professor Yunus is very disturbed.
