News Topical, Digital Desk : The tenure of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora is ending tomorrow i.e. on 31 July 2025. There is a lot of discussion in the entire police department about who will be the next Police Commissioner. Whether this time too a senior officer will be brought from another state or an officer from Delhi-UT cadre will be given this big responsibility, there is no concrete information on this yet.
Sanjay Arora is a 1988 batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. In August 2022, he was made the Delhi Police Commissioner. Prior to this, he has also been the DG of ITBP and SSB. He played a major role in managing the security of the G-20 Summit well. In such a situation, there is talk of extending his tenure. But no official announcement has been made by the government so far.
Names of two officers in external cadre
If, like last time, this time too an officer is brought in from outside cadre, then two names are most discussed.
Gyanendra Pratap Singh (GP Singh) - He is a 1991 batch officer of Assam cadre. Currently he is the DG of CRPF. Earlier he has also been the DGP of Assam. It is being told that the Chief Minister of Assam has recommended his name.
Shatrujit Kapoor- He is a 1990 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre and is currently the DGP of Haryana. Sources said that his name has been put forward by the former Chief Minister of Haryana.
These officers of Delhi-UT cadre are in the race
If this time the central government wants to appoint an officer from Delhi-UT cadre as the Police Commissioner, then the name of one of these could be considered.
S.B.K. Singh (1988 batch) - Currently DG of Home Guard. However, he has only six months left for retirement.
Satish Golcha (1992 batch) - DG of Tihar Jail. He is considered a strict but practical officer.
Praveer Ranjan (1993 batch) - Currently posted in CISF. Prior to this, he has handled many important responsibilities in Delhi Police.
Two police commissioners were brought in from outside
After the Delhi riots, SN Srivastava was made the Commissioner but he did not get approval to extend his tenure.
After this, Gujarat cadre Rakesh Asthana was made the Police Commissioner. He took charge just two days before his retirement and then he was given an extension of one year.
Sanjay Arora is also from Tamil Nadu cadre and was brought from outside and appointed.
Now all eyes are on the Home Ministry and the PMO to see what decision will be taken this time. Will the tradition continue and an officer be brought from outside or will the Delhi-UT cadre get a chance?
