News Topical, Digital Desk : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has exposed a scam in admissions in medical colleges. The ED has exposed a racket that used fake documents to get students admitted to medical colleges under the NRI quota. The most shocking revelation in the investigation is that private medical colleges have given about 18,000 admissions in MBBS courses to students who used fake documents. This revelation has come to light in an investigation conducted with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies.
What was found out in the investigation?
The investigation conducted by ED has revealed that private medical colleges paid agents to prepare documents such as embassy documents of NRIs and fake genealogies. In most of the cases, agents and medical colleges used the same documents for multiple candidates. ED has conducted searches in this case at the premises of various private medical colleges in West Bengal and Odisha and their key persons, agents and other related persons.
breaking with the rules
When the ED raided the premises, many fake NRI certificates and seals of notary officers working in the US were recovered. Let us tell you that according to the rules, the fees of students taking admission in medical college through NRI quota have to be paid by one of their NRI relatives. However, ED's investigation has found that in most of the cases, this fee was not paid by the NRI family members.
As per Supreme Court guidelines, only NRI relatives with 'first degree' and 'second degree' degrees are eligible to sponsor NRI quota students. However, in most cases, the fees are paid by the student's family. This has thwarted the flow of foreign currency into India, which is one of the main purposes of granting admissions to NRI quota seats.
