News Topical, Digital Desk : Due to cold winds blowing across North India, the effects of winter are already being felt in many states. After Diwali, severe cold is expected in many states, including Delhi. There is no rain alert for North India for the next week. 

Delhi-NCR may experience severe cold before time

The Meteorological Department has predicted clear skies in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday. In places like Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurgaon, the maximum daytime temperature is expected to reach 30 to 31°C, and the minimum nighttime temperature is expected to reach 18 to 19°C. Both temperatures are slightly below average for this time of year. Rain is not expected in the region until after Diwali, and a period of severe cold is expected to set in once the festival is over. 

The minimum temperature in Delhi on Monday was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees below the season's average, the weather department said. Monday was the fourth consecutive day when the minimum temperature was recorded below 20 degrees Celsius for the winter season 2025-26.

Pollution started increasing in Delhi

Delhi is witnessing a gradual increase in air pollution levels as winter sets in. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 189 at 4 p.m., which falls in the moderate category. 

Rain alert in these areas

Meanwhile, some states in South India may experience rainfall. Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep may experience heavy rainfall between October 14 and 18. Lightning and winds of up to 30-40 kmph are likely to occur in this region for the next 4-5 days. Rainfall is also possible in Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Odisha, Goa, and Central Maharashtra during October 14 and 15. 

 Monsoon retreats from Bengal

The southwest monsoon has completely withdrawn from the entire West Bengal. The IMD, in its forecast for the next seven days, said that the weather in West Bengal will remain mainly dry. According to the Meteorological Department data, there was no rainfall at any place in West Bengal in the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday. The state capital Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is almost normal. The IMD has forecast partly cloudy sky in Kolkata till Tuesday morning.
