News Topical, Digital Desk : The friendship and closeness between Dharmendra and Dilip Kumar is nothing short of a film story. Dharmendra himself recounted how, in 1952, he unsuspectingly entered his idol Dilip Kumar's house to meet him. This story is recorded in Dilip Kumar's autobiography "The Substance and the Shadow."

Regarding this incident, Dharmendra explained that in 1952, he was a second-year college student and had just arrived in Mumbai from Ludhiana. However, at that time, he had no firm intention of entering films; he simply wanted to meet Dilip Kumar. He was so impressed by Dilip Kumar's performance in the film " Shaheed " that he felt the two were like brothers.

Dharmendra went straight to the bedroom.

The very next day, he arrived at Dilip Kumar's house in Pali Mala, Bandra. There was no one at the gate, so he went straight inside and climbed the stairs to a room upstairs. It was Dilip Kumar's room, and he was sleeping at the time.

Dilip Kumar woke up to the sight of an unknown man. Dharmendra was terrified and immediately ran downstairs, leaving the house to drink lassi at a cafe. He kept thinking about what a huge mistake it was to enter the house without asking.

Why did Dharmendra enter the house without asking ?

Dharmendra had mentioned that in Punjab, houses were always open, and people could come and go freely. He had assumed Dilip Sahab's house would be similar, but later realized that this was Mumbai, and a big star lived right next door.

Six years after this incident, Dharmendra entered the United Producers and Filmfare Talent Contest and won. The girl who came to do his makeup at the Filmfare office turned out to be Dilip Kumar's sister, Farida. Dharmendra then requested her to introduce him to Dilip Kumar, and she agreed.

The next day, Dharmendra was summoned to his home at 48, Pali Hill. Dilip Kumar came out and greeted him warmly. Sitting on the lawn, he recounted his early struggles. Dharmendra sat quietly and listened.

Dilip Kumar gifted a sweater

When Dharmendra was leaving, Dilip Kumar took him upstairs to his room. He took a sweater from his closet and gave it to Dharmendra, as he was wearing only a thin cotton shirt. Dilip Kumar hugged him and then walked him to the door.
