The 2024-25 report released by the Home Ministry said the new border outposts (BOPs) are spread across the western, central and eastern sectors of the Himalayas at altitudes ranging from 9,000 feet to 18,750 feet, from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.
The report also states that the ITBP has a total of 209 BOPs. According to the ministry's previous report for 2020-21, the number of BOPs operated by the ITBP was 180.
The same report states that this increase in the number of BOPs came after the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in 2020. According to the latest report, the ITBP conducted 4,503 patrols from April to December 2024 to maintain strict vigil along the India-China border.
