News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump recently ordered new tests of the US nuclear weapons system. However, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright clarified that the tests will not involve nuclear explosions at this time.

Last week on social media, President Trump said he had directed the War Department to begin testing our nuclear weapons on a similar basis.

"I think the tests we're talking about right now are systems tests. These are not nuclear explosions. These are what we call non-critical explosions," Chris Wright said in an interview with Fox News.

The US Energy Secretary further stated that the planned test includes testing all other parts of the nuclear weapon to ensure they have the proper geometry and prepare for a nuclear detonation.

He further said that these tests will be conducted on new systems to ensure that the replaced nuclear weapons are better than the previous ones.

What Trump said about the plan

Confusion over Trump's intentions has persisted since Thursday, when, just before meeting Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea, he indicated on his Twitter social platform that the US would resume nuclear weapons testing after a 33-year hiatus.

US President Donald Trump has defended his decision to resume nuclear testing in the US, saying the nuclear ambitions of geopolitical rivals Russia and China are a reason behind his plan. Speaking to CBS News, Trump said Moscow and Beijing are also testing their nuclear arsenals, but they don't talk about it.

The US President said, "We have more nuclear weapons than any other country. And I think we should do something about nuclear disarmament. And I actually discussed this with both President Putin and President Xi Jinping. We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times over. Russia has a lot of nuclear weapons and China will have a lot too. They have plenty."

You know, you have to test. And I say test because Russia has announced they're going to test. If you've noticed, North Korea is constantly testing. Other countries are testing as well. We're the only country that doesn't test, and I don't want to be the only country that doesn't test.

Will India also conduct nuclear weapons tests?

Amidst the discussions on nuclear weapon testing by America and Russia, a question has now arisen whether nuclear-rich India will also conduct any test?

Amidst these discussions and speculations, former Indian Army soldier Lieutenant General Raj Shukla (Retd) said, "Trump has announced the resumption of nuclear testing. Putin has tested the nuclear-powered and armed land cruise missile, Burevestnik, and the nuclear-powered and armed underwater missile Poseidon. Does India's nuclear policy need to be reconsidered/restructured?"
