News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the bitterness in trade and diplomatic relations between India and the US, former US ambassador Nikki Haley has shown the mirror to the Trump administration.

Nikki Haley has stressed that India must be viewed as a "valued and democratic friend" to counter China.

In his article in Newsweek he warned that ruining 25 years of friendship with India would be a strategic catastrophe.

Haley has described the partnership between India and America as important. Along with this, she has said that there should be no doubt that India is important for America.

Nikki said that the emergence of democratic India is not a threat to the world, but is different from a communist country like China. Haley wrote in her article, “India should be seen as a valuable free and democratic partner, not as an enemy like China, which is avoiding sanctions despite buying oil from Russia, even though it is Moscow's biggest buyer.”

'India is the real power against China'

Haley said the rise of democratic India is not a threat to the free world, as is communist China. "The US-India partnership is undoubtedly essential to counter China," she wrote.

He also said that India has the capacity to manufacture goods on a large scale like China, which can help the US to shift its essential supply chain from China. Apart from this, India's growing defense power and its role in the Middle East are very important to stabilize the region.

"In the short term, India is vital to helping the United States shift its essential supply chains away from China," Haley wrote in her article. “While the Trump administration is trying to bring manufacturing back to the United States, India is the only country that can mass-produce products like textiles, low-cost phones, and solar panels that cannot be made in the United States as quickly or efficiently as China.”

He added, “India's growing power and its security role in the Middle East could be important in stabilising the region as the US seeks to send fewer troops and money there. India's geographical location could make things difficult for Beijing in a major conflict.”

India's economic strength acknowledged

In her article, Nikki Haley has described India as the world's fastest growing large economy. Along with this, she said that it will soon overtake Japan. The US ambassador wrote that India's rise is the biggest obstacle to China's plans to change the global order.

Haley referred to the conflict of economic interests and border disputes between India and China, especially the Galwan Valley clash of 2020. She said that partnership with the US will help India stand up economically and militarily against its aggressive neighbour China, which is in the interest of America.

'Don't let the trade dispute escalate'

Haley warned that escalating trade tensions between the US and India would be a "huge and avoidable" wrong move, creating a permanent rift in relations.

She feared that this could benefit China. Haley advised India to take President Donald Trump's words on the issue of Russian oil seriously and find a solution to this in collaboration with the White House.

He urged Trump to fix the soured relations with India as soon as possible and hold direct talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, "The sooner these steps are taken, the better."

"The administration should focus on healing the rift with India and give this relationship more high-level attention and resources than the United States gives to China or Israel," Haley wrote in her article.

The importance of shared goals was counted

Haley stressed that America should not forget the most important thing, that is, shared goals. Nikki Haley said, "America needs a friend in India to counter China."

This statement comes after the US imposed a 25 percent import duty on Indian goods and announced an additional 25 percent duty from August 27, taking the total duty to 50 percent. This tariff has soured trade and diplomatic relations between India and the US.
