News Topical, Digital Desk : The Bombay High Court on Tuesday (November 4) granted bail to a 65-year-old man arrested in connection with the 2011 triple bomb blasts, which killed 27 people and injured over 120. A bench of Justices A.S. Gadkari and R.R. Bhonsale granted bail to Kafeel Ahmed Mohammed Ayub on a surety of ₹100,000. A copy of the detailed order has not yet been made available.
Ayub, a resident of Bihar, is currently lodged in Mumbai Central Jail. He was arrested in February 2012 and has been in custody since then. On July 13, 2011, three serial bomb blasts occurred in Mumbai. The explosions occurred at intervals of 10 minutes each near Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House, and a school in Dadar Kabutarkhana, near the railway station.
Ayub challenged it in the High Court.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had alleged that the terrorist organization Indian Mujahideen had plotted the blasts and that its founder, Yasin Bhatkal, was the mastermind. Ayub challenged the 2022 order of the special court in the High Court that denied him bail.
Ayub was accused of inciting Muslim youth
According to the prosecution agency, Ayub and other accused in the case incited Muslim youth to commit terrorist acts at the behest of the Indian Mujahideen. The investigating agency claimed that Ayub was in close contact with Bhatkal. Ayub's lawyer, Mubeen Solkar, argued that he had been in jail for over a decade and the trial was still ongoing.
What did Ayub say in the Mumbai triple blast case?
Ayub, meanwhile, has claimed that he is innocent and has been framed in this case. Ayub stated that the prosecution has no evidence against him other than his own confession. He also claimed that he did not make the statement voluntarily.
