Dehradun. Doda Encounter News: On Rakshabandhan, every sister eagerly waits for her brother to tie a Rakhi. On this day, sisters tie a Raksha Sutra on their brother's wrist and pray for his long life. But imagine what that sister must have gone through when the news of her brother's martyrdom came five days before Rakshabandhan.
Captain Deepak Singh of Doon, who was martyred in the terrorist attack in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, was the only brother of two sisters. He was the youngest among three siblings. His younger sister Jyoti's marriage had taken place three months ago, for which he had come to Doon to attend. Elder sister Manisha lives in Kerala.
The martyr's parents had gone to Kerala to meet him. Raksha Bandhan is near and the sisters are busy preparing for it. Captain Deepak's sisters were also praying for his safety, but destiny had something else in store. They had a desire to see their brother, but now his body wrapped in the tricolour will reach home.
There is silence at home, everyone in the neighborhood is sad
Captain Deepak, originally from Almora (now Dehradun) in Uttarakhand, studied up to 12th standard from St. Thomas School. He was commissioned into the Army on 13 June 2020. His father Mahesh Singh is a retired personnel of Uttarakhand Police. He was posted at the Police Headquarters and took VRS in April this year. Mother Champa Devi is a housewife.
Earlier his family used to live in Police Line Race Course, but three years ago they shifted to Windlass River Valley in Kuanwala. People of Windlass River Valley Housing are saddened by the news of Captain Deepak's martyrdom. River Valley Residential Welfare Association has paid tribute to him by organizing a condolence meeting on Wednesday evening.
President Harshvardhan Kala and Secretary Pradeep Shukla said that Deepak was a very friendly and gentle person. I had met him just three months ago at my sister's wedding. I can't believe that he is no longer with us. The martyr's body will reach Dehradun on Thursday. After which his funeral will be held with military honors in Haridwar.
He was a 'warrior' not only in the battlefield but also in the sports field
Captain Deepak, who sacrificed his life fighting terrorists, was not only a master of the battlefield but also of the sports field. He used to play many games including hockey and tennis. Being an excellent hockey player, he showed excellent performance on many occasions.
Pradeep Shukla, secretary of River Valley Residential Welfare Association, said that whenever he came on leave, he would definitely come to play tennis. He had amazing energy, which was visible on the playing field as well. It was his passion which was visible even during the terrorist encounter.
Tributes paid at police headquarters
A tribute meeting was organized at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday. During this, senior police officers including Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar paid tribute to the photo of martyr Captain Deepak Singh. They also paid tribute to him by observing two minutes of silence.
The Director General of Police said that this supreme sacrifice of Captain Deepak Singh for the protection of the motherland is an irreparable loss not only for the country but also for the Uttarakhand Police family. In this sad moment, the entire police family stands with his father Mahesh Singh.
Three young officers sacrificed their lives in five years
This is the third time in five years that Doon has lost a young military officer. In the year 2019, Doon residents Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal and Major Chitresh Bisht sacrificed their lives in the defense of the country. Major Vibhuti got the Shaurya Chakra posthumously, Major Chitresh got the Army Medal. Now 25-year-old Captain Deepak Singh has made the supreme sacrifice in the defense of the country.
