News Topical, Digital Desk : Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that extensive procurement of pulses and oilseeds will be carried out in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat during the 2025-26 Kharif season. Specifically, the government will purchase the entire crop of black gram and pigeon pea in Uttar Pradesh. In the interest of farmers, procurement will be done through a transparent and digital process, ensuring maximum benefits for them and eliminating the role of middlemen.

Produce worth more than ₹13,890 crore will be purchased in both states. Shivraj reviewed the situation in a virtual meeting on Tuesday with the two states' agriculture ministers, Surya Pratap Shahi and Raghavji Patel. Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and senior officials were also present.

What did the Agriculture Minister say?

The Agriculture Minister directed that Aadhaar-based biometric or facial authentication and POS machines be installed compulsorily at procurement centers. This will ensure that only genuine farmers can sell their produce. He stated that 2.27 lakh tonnes of urad will be procured 100% in Uttar Pradesh in Kharif 2025-26, valued at approximately ₹1,777 crore.

The entire 1.13 lakh tonnes of tur (tur) crop will be purchased, costing approximately ₹910 crore (approximately ₹910 crore). Furthermore, 1983 tonnes of mung beans will be purchased for ₹17.38 crore (approximately ₹173.8 crore), 30,410 tonnes of sesame seeds for ₹299 crore (approximately ₹299 crore), and 99,438 tonnes of peanuts for ₹722 crore (approximately ₹722 crore).

Government's focus on farmers

Similarly, procurement of soybeans, mung beans, and peanuts has been approved in Gujarat. The Agriculture Minister stated that procurement quantities will be revised if necessary after the first advance estimate report for Kharif is released. He reiterated that the government's priority is to provide farmers with timely and fair prices.
