News Topical, Digital Desk : The 41-day US shutdown is nearing its end. On Monday, some lawmakers approved a proposal to end the shutdown. However, many Democratic Party leaders are still out of Washington. After their return, a vote will be held in Parliament, ending the longest shutdown in US history.
US President Donald Trump, while supporting the bill to end the shutdown, said, "We are going to open our country again soon."
Voting will take place in Parliament
The opposition, the Democrats, had declared a nationwide shutdown due to the Trump administration's refusal to continue funding Obamacare and the health insurance plan. The Democrats continued to insist on negotiating with Trump's party and having their demands met.
After a 40-day lockdown, Democratic and Republican leaders met yesterday. The White House presented a proposal that stipulates ending the shutdown and holding a vote on the Affordable Care Act in December.
Two factions formed within the Democrats
According to New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen, "The Republican Party rejected our demands. So we had no choice but to accept this condition. We felt a shutdown was the best way to ensure the continuation of health services in the country. There will be a vote on this in due course, and I am confident that these services will continue."
The ruling Republican Party wants as many Democrats as possible to approve the proposal. However, only five of the 10-15 members involved in the negotiations voted. Many Democrats remain opposed to the proposal and are urging the shutdown to continue.
