News Topical, Digital Desk : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued a detailed advisory for candidates selected in the Civil Services Examination 2025. The Commission has clarified that UPSC selected candidates should avoid posting on social media that could be misinterpreted or that are intended to promote themselves.

The UPSC advises selected candidates that any unprofessional behavior or personal promotion on social media may tarnish the image of their service and the institution. Therefore, refrain from using their achievements for commercial promotion.

Instructions are issued every year

While the Union Public Service Commission issues similar advice to recommended candidates every year, this year's advisory is more detailed. The Commission has advised selected candidates to use social media wisely.

The Commission has advised candidates to avoid 'impulsive' statements, self-promotion and maintain distance from commercial entities.

Why did the commission take such a decision?

According to officials with the commission, this advice is important for two reasons: After the annual results are declared, many coaching institutes claim successful candidates as their students and often use their names and photographs for publicity.

The Commission has also received complaints in the last one year about officials using social media for self-promotion and branding.

What did the commission say?

In its advisory to selected candidates, the Union Public Service Commission said, "You are entering a service field that requires impartiality, integrity, and restraint in public conduct. It is therefore prudent to maintain professional distance from commercial/institutional endorsements and to ensure that your achievements are not used for personal gain or publicity."
