News Topical, Digital Desk : The central government has issued a new draft seeking public opinion to amend the IT Rules 2021. Additional changes were made to the original draft, issued on March 30, on April 21. According to reports, under this new rule, labeling of videos, deepfakes, and voice cloning content created using artificial intelligence (AI) will be mandatory.

Additionally, according to the new proposal, any content that appears authentic but has been created or altered by AI must clearly state that it is AI-generated. This includes deepfake videos, fake photos, and AI voice cloning.

Data will have to be kept safe for 180 days

The government has mandated compliance with guidelines for all social media intermediaries. This could also cover news and current affairs content, although ordinary users will not be considered news publishers. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been given a role in the process to take action on content, and in some cases, investigations can be initiated without a complaint. Furthermore, social media companies will be required to retain data for at least 180 days.
