News Topical, Digital Desk : Tensions between NATO and Russia have escalated significantly after Russian jets were recently spotted near the borders of Poland and other NATO countries. Trump has also said that NATO should shoot down any Russian jet that violates the territory. He made this remark during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of a UN summit.

Trump said this

When asked by a reporter whether NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace, Trump said, "Yes, I should." His comments come after recent incursions by Russian fighter jets and drones that have alarmed Washington's NATO allies in Europe.

Trump dodged questions about Putin

Meanwhile, the US president once again dodged questions about whether he believes Russian leader Vladimir Putin is ready to make peace despite recent escalation of tensions with Russia.

When Trump was asked if he still trusted Putin, whom he met at a high-level summit in Alaska in August, he said, “I'll tell you in a month, OK?”

Trump has called for sanctions on Russia

Donald Trump has previously, and repeatedly, given a two-week deadline to decide on steps against Russia, including imposing new sanctions. Trump had a debate with Zelensky in the Oval Office in February. Trump said he had great respect for the fight Ukraine was fighting. “It's really quite amazing.”

Zelensky thanked Trump for his personal efforts to prevent the war and reiterated Trump's call for European countries to stop buying Russian oil. Recent air violations have heightened tensions between Russia and Europe over Ukraine.

Three Russian jets entered Estonian airspace on Friday.

NATO scrambled its jets after three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets intruded into Estonian airspace for about 12 minutes on Friday, prompting Estonia to call for a UN Security Council meeting and talks with NATO allies.
