News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on several countries and has already imposed them. Trump has now threatened to impose a 50 percent tariff on Canada.

"The United States is decertifying Bombardier Global Express business jets until Canada certifies several planes made by U.S. foe Gulfstream," Trump said on Thursday, January 29.

Canada will be hit with a 50% tariff.

Sharing a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, 'America is banning the sale of Gulfstream products in Canada due to this certification process.'

Trump threatened Canada, writing, “If for any reason this situation is not immediately corrected, I will impose a 50% tariff on any and all aircraft sold by Canada to the United States.”

"Canada has refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700 and 800 jets. In April, the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency certified the Gulfstream G800 jet," Trump said.

How Trump will decertify aircraft is unclear, as that's the Federal Aviation Administration's job, but he has made similar announcements in the past that ultimately led to the relevant agencies implementing them with some leeway.

It's unclear which planes, other than Bombardier's Global Express franchise, will be subject to Trump's increased tariffs.

Bombardier, General Dynamics-owned Gulfstream and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's office did not immediately respond to Trump's order.
