Dignitaries from countries across the world arrived to attend the funeral of Christian religious leader Pope Francis. The funeral of the Pope took place in Vatican City on Saturday. US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, who arrived to attend the funeral of the Pope, met each other.

 

The White House has also confirmed the meeting of the two leaders. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky also posted a post on social media after this meeting. 

 

The White House called the meeting 'productive'

This is the first meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump after a heated debate between the two leaders at the White House in February. After this meeting, Zelensky said that if this meeting brings the kind of peace that he hopes for, then it could prove to be historic. On the other hand, a White House spokesperson called it very productive.

 

The two leaders talked for 15 minutes

A response from Zelensky's office has come out regarding this meeting. According to the office of Ukrainian President Zelensky, the two leaders, sitting in St. Peter's Basilica, leaned close to each other without any assistants and talked for about 15 minutes. A photo of this meeting has also been shared.

 

There was a heated debate between the two leaders in February

  • It is noteworthy that this is their first meeting in the Vatican after the heated exchange in the Oval Office in Washington in February this year. This is happening at a crucial time in the talks being held between Ukraine and Russia with the aim of ending the fighting.
  • In a post on the social media platform Telegram, Zelensky wrote that it was a good meeting. Face to face, we managed to talk about a lot. We hope that the things discussed will lead to some result.
  • Zelensky said that the protection of the lives of our people. A complete and unconditional ceasefire. A reliable and lasting peace that will prevent the recurrence of war.
