News Topical, Digital Desk : The Ministry of Defense has taken a major step to strengthen the country's security. An agreement has been signed to purchase advanced mountain radars for the Indian Air Force, which will further strengthen surveillance and security capabilities in mountainous terrain.

The Ministry of Defense has signed a major contract worth approximately ₹1,950 crore with public sector company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). This agreement will procure two mountain radars and related equipment and infrastructure for the Indian Air Force. The deployment and operation of these radars will enhance the country's air defense capabilities and further strengthen national security. It will also reduce dependence on foreign equipment.

Radars made with indigenous technology

  • These radars are completely indigenously developed and designed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment of DRDO.
  • These will be manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited, which will boost defence production in the country and strengthen the 'Make in India' initiative.

How was the agreement reached?

The contract is under the "Buy Indian" category, meaning the product will be entirely designed and manufactured in India. The agreement was signed on March 31st in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Defense and BEL. It was also the last major defense procurement deal of the last fiscal year.
