News Topical, Digital Desk : TMC MP Mahua Moitra has approached the Supreme Court against the Election Commission. Mahua Moitra has challenged the ECI's order which talks about special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar.

The petition demands that the Supreme Court immediately stay this order and direct the ECI not to issue any such order in the rest of the states of the country. Mahua Moitra alleges that this order is arbitrary, unconstitutional and excludes the poor, women and migrant voters from the voting process.

Recently, Mahua Moitra was in the news when she married former BJD MP and senior lawyer Pinaki Mishra in Berlin. Apart from this, she was also in the news when Kalyan Banerjee made a personal comment on Mahua Moitra and said many things which are controversial. Banerjee said that Mahua Moitra had just got married and went on a honeymoon and has returned from her honeymoon very soon and as soon as she came back, she attacked me. He also accused Mahua of "breaking a family". 

Who is Mahua Moitra?

Mahua Moitra is an Indian politician and a prominent leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). She is a Member of Parliament from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal and is known for her outspoken style and sharp criticism of the policies of the central government. Her political journey, educational background and controversies have kept her in the national spotlight.

Mahua Moitra was born on 12 October 1974 in a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family in Labak, Cachar district of Assam. Her father's name is Dwipendra Lal Moitra and mother's name is Manju Moitra. She received her early education from Gokhale Memorial Girls School in Kolkata and later graduated in Economics and Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, USA.

Before entering politics, Mahua worked as an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase in New York and London, where she rose to the position of Vice President. In 2009, during her 10th college reunion, she decided to leave banking and join public service in India.
