Gastroenterologist Dr. Lebelis Padilla says that while everyone's system doesn't necessarily run like clockwork, there are certain habits that can help your body establish a smooth, regular pattern. And it all starts with lifestyle. According to Dr. Padilla, regular and predictable bowel movements are primarily the result of your daily habits. When these habits work in conjunction with each other, the body also adapts to a set pace, even when it comes to toilet time.
It's not just a matter of convenience. Research suggests that how often you go to the toilet is also an indicator of your overall health. Some studies have found that passing stool one to two times a day is considered the optimal range for the body.
Increase fiber
The primary requirement for regular bowel movements is adequate fiber. Fiber makes stool bulky and soft, making it easier to pass. It also effectively cleanses your colon, helping remove accumulated debris and bacteria. Surprisingly, 95 percent of adults don't meet their daily fiber needs. Experts recommend consuming at least 25 grams of fiber daily.
Drink water in the morning
If you want to poop before you leave for work, the first thing you should do in the morning is drink water, not coffee. Coffee may act as a laxative for some people, but water's real role is to prevent constipation. Drinking enough water keeps stools soft and easy to pass.
Shake your body slightly
Even a little movement activates your bowels. You don't necessarily need to go for a run early in the morning. Gentle yoga poses like seated spinal twists, forward folds, yoga squats, and knee-to-chest hugs can all help stimulate bowel movement.
