News Topical, Digital Desk : Ahmedabad plane crash: 'Not getting thrust... Mayday! Mayday...' With these last words of the pilot, the Air India plane, after taking off from Ahmedabad to London, crashed on the medical college hostel and turned into a ball of fire. In this accident which happened on 12th June, a total of 241 people on board the plane died while one person escaped alive. The black box of the plane has been found. The investigation of this accident is going on. Meanwhile, the conversation between the pilot and the ATC is being discussed a lot.

The pilot had given a Mayday! Mayday call at the last moment and said that thrust is not being achieved... the plane is coming down... Mayday! Mayday. That means he tried his best to save the plane. Perhaps he tried to go a little ahead of the residential area by giving more thrust so that the damage is less. After this, the pilot lost contact with the ATC and the plane collided with the medical college building and got engulfed in flames. There has been a lot of discussion about the Mayday call that in a very serious emergency situation, when the pilot is left with no option, then he gives a Mayday call. The pilot had also said that Thrust not achieved...

What is thrust?

Thrust is an important force in flying an aircraft, which pushes the aircraft forward and helps it maintain its direction while flying in the air. In simple words, thrust provides speed and flight to the aircraft. Thrust is a propulsive force that is produced by the aircraft's engine (such as a jet engine or propeller). This force helps the aircraft move forward by overcoming air resistance.

What does it mean to achieve thrust?

Achieving thrust means that the aircraft's engines have generated enough thrust to take off or achieve the required speed. This term is especially important during take-off. To take off, the aircraft has to achieve a certain speed (take-off speed) so that it can rise upwards. To achieve this speed, the engines have to generate enough thrust.

Meaning of thrust not achieved?

This is a serious situation when the engines are not able to generate the thrust required for take-off. This means that the plane will not be able to gain sufficient speed and fly safely. This is the situation that arose in the Air India Boeing plane crash. Immediately after take-off, the pilot noticed that he was not getting thrust. The plane was not able to gain enough speed to rise. That is why the pilot told ATC, MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY... thrust not achieved. Power is decreasing, the plane is not rising. Ultimately the plane met with an accident.
