News Topical, Digital Desk : On the occasion of Christmas, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed deep concern over the alleged attacks on Christians across the country. Referring to the attack on a carol singing group in Palakkad, Kerala, he said that we must stand firmly with our Christian brothers. He said that if there is an attack on the religious traditions or beliefs of any community, then it is not only an attack on the people of that religion but also an attack on the Constitution of India and the freedom of every citizen. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed shock over reports of protests and threats during Christmas celebrations in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Nagaur, Rajasthan. He called on the BJP to take action regarding these incidents.

Unity is very important

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor further said, “I think this solidarity is extremely important, and we are going through a time when, sadly, Christians are being attacked in various parts of the country. In Kerala, too, a carol singing group was attacked in Palakkad, which is truly shocking.” He said that when our traditions are attacked, it is not just Christians who are affected, but all of us Indians. Every Indian is under attack. Our constitutional guarantees of freedom of worship and freedom of belief are under attack, and we must all stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers. "This has always been very important to me. I have been an MP for the past 17 years, and showing solidarity with my constituents is fundamental, but showing respect for the cultural and religious traditions of all communities is central to Kerala politics," he said. The principal of a private school in Nagaur, Rajasthan, has alleged that a group of people claiming to be members of the Bajrang Dal threatened children and staff over a Christmas celebration at the institution.

In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Bajrang Dal members protested outside St. Alphonsus Cathedral Church and recited the Hanuman Chalisa. They alleged that Hindu religion and society were portrayed in an offensive manner during a Christmas program organized by the church. Without naming the BJP, Shashi Tharoor urged the responsible leadership of the ruling party at the center to condemn these attacks.
