News Topical, Digital Desk : A professor at Bengaluru's PES University called a Muslim student a terrorist during class, saying that people like him are the reason for the war in Iran. The university suspended the professor after a video of the incident went viral.

The incident sparked outrage among students. Police have taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and filed a case against the accused, Professor Murlidhar Deshpande, under sections of hurting religious sentiments and disturbing the peace.

What is the whole matter

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, when a student named Affan asked for permission to leave the classroom to meet someone. It is alleged that Professor Murlidhar Deshpande called Affan a terrorist in front of the entire class.

The controversy escalated further when the professor allegedly blamed the Muslim student for the Iran war on "people like him," and remarked that US President Donald Trump would "come and get him." Furthermore, the professor allegedly said that the student would "go to hell."

FIR registered

He was suspended the same day following a massive uproar after a video of the incident went viral on social media. Police have filed an FIR against Professor Deshpande, naming Affan as the victim. The FIR states that the complainant came across a social media post related to the incident.

Sources said the professor later submitted a written apology to the college administration, but did not apologize directly to the student.
