News Topical, Digital Desk : Right-wing activist and close aide of US President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, was shot dead during a college event at the University of Utah on Wednesday.

The incident in Utah has sparked a debate over his recent statement on Indian immigrants, in which he said, "The United States does not need any more visas for people from India." Kirk had said that the US is "full" and the country should now put its own people first.

"The US needs no more visas for people from India. Perhaps no form of legal immigration has hurt American workers as much as those from India. No more. We are full. Let us finally put our people first," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on September 2.

Kirk wrote this post in response to Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham's post, in which she said that any trade deal with India would require the US to give them more visas. Ingraham wrote, “I would not want to give them anything in the form of visas and trade losses.”

Donald Trump informed about Kirk's death

President Trump posted the news of Kirk's death on his social media platform Truth Social. Kirk was the co-founder and CEO of the youth organization Turning Point USA. President Trump said, “No one understood the feelings of young people in America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially me, and now he is no longer with us.”

President Trump expressed his condolences, writing, "Melania and I both send our condolences to Charlie's beautiful wife, Erica, and his family. Charlie, we love you!"
