In 1973, the film Anamika, directed by Raghunath Jhalani, was released in theaters. Before the movie's release, the director requested a sad song from composer R.D. Burman. According to an IMDb report, Pancham Da composed the song with singer Mohammed Rafi in mind. Following R.D. Burman's example, lyricist  Majrooh Sultanpuri also wrote the song's lines with Rafi in mind. 

This song from the film Anamika was filmed on actors Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan. "Meri Bheegi Bheegi Si" is often cited as Kishore Kumar's best sad song. Everything from the opening line to the interlude is considered truly magnificent.

During his three-decade-long singing career, Kishore Kumar sang over 16,000 songs, including nearly 2,800 Hindi songs. During this time, he became the voice of many superstars like Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan.
