News Topical, Digital Desk : The central government has taken its most drastic step yet to protect the ancient Aravalli mountain range, which stretches from Delhi to Gujarat. The Union Environment Ministry has completely banned the granting of any new mining leases in the Aravalli region.

No entry for new mining

The central government has issued strict instructions to the governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi that no new mining will be permitted in the entire Aravalli region, with the aim of protecting the mountains from erosion.

The safe zone will be further expanded

The government will not stop at the current restrictions. The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) has been tasked with conducting a scientific study of the entire Aravalli region. This council will identify new areas that need to be declared "mining-free zones." This will expand the protected area of the Aravalli region.

Tightening the noose on old mines

Even mines that are already operating will not be allowed to operate freely. State governments have been ordered to strictly enforce the Supreme Court's regulations. Additional restrictions will be imposed on any activity that harms the environment.

Efforts to stop desertification

The central government believes that the Aravalli Range is not just a mountain range, but a protective shield for northern India. It prevents the Thar Desert from advancing, maintains water levels, and harbors immense biodiversity.
